Laughter Therapy

Laughter Therapy applies laughter theories and practices into multi-generational, multi-cultural, systematic health and happiness programs. We do this by promoting attitudes that support mental and physical health, thereby helping primary treatments work better, and by teaching methods that are uplifting, simple, effective and powerful. We believe these methods make a remarkable impact both in the overall health and wellness of every individual we teach and serve, as well as making the world a better place; one filled with laughter, kindness, tolerance, forgiveness, and harmony. We promote a worldwide movement for health, happiness and peace by encouraging everyone to tap into the positive benefits of laughter and humor, which are natural pathways to the mind and body, thereby directly related to mental and physical health.

The benefits of laughter are plentiful and far-reaching. In today’s culture, people are more stressed, less relaxed and often lacking in work/life/family balance. Life is meant to be enjoyed with passion, zest, enthusiasm and in the camaraderie of like-minded individuals. Laughter therapy can bring the happiness back into your life, while helping to relieve or eliminate many health problems that are associated with stress.

Members at Memories+ Adult Day Program engage in Laughter Therapy which is offered by our very own Program Manager Lisa.

As a practicing Recreation Therapist Lisa believes in using many different modalities to help maintain or improve quality of life to her clients. She realized that there is a need for more laughing! Today’s culture are more stressed and lacking work/life balance.  In 2007 Lisa sought out and received funding to become trained as a Certified Laughter Leader with the World Laughter Tour. Lisa uses her facilitation techniques associated with Recreation Therapy and introduces Laughter Therapy Programs as an approach to life. Lisa uses Laughter Therapy to help bring the happiness back into her client’s life, while helping to relieve or eliminate many health problems that are associated with stress  through imaginary, exercises, and fun! Lisa was recently interviewed by CBC The National News on her work in Laughter Therapy.  Lisa has brought Laughter Therapy to Retirement Homes, LTC, Staff Retreats, Teacher’s Professional Development Days, and has spoken at a number of conferences on the importance on laughter in the workplace.
